Kenny Githens - Bass Guitar
Born and raised in South Jersey, Kenny's passion for the Blues started at an
early age. In the late 60's and early 70's he began listening to John Mayall, the Allman Brothers, Johnny
Winter, Hot Tuna and, a little later, B.B.
King, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, and especially Albert Collins. At age 23 he
was loaned a bass guitar and a small amp by a good friend and told to give it a
try. He's been grateful ever since.
A few years later he helped to
form the State Street Blues Band and over the years he has played with many
Blues and Rock bands in the Philadelphia Tri-State area, including Buckshot,
The Psychedelic Pants, Snakeskin Blues Band and Doghouse.
In 2007 Kenny became a founding member of
Scoville Blues. Along with helping to write the band's original material,
Kenny's straight ahead rhythmic playing style helps to propel their brand of the
Blues.
Along the way he has shared the stage with some of the area's best
blues musicians, including Georgie Bonds, Lonnie Shields, Mikey jr., Eddie
Taylor Jr., Bev Conklin, Brian McLean, Skyla Burrell, Stacy Brooks, Andrew
"Jr. Boy" Jones, Victor Wainwright and Gary Cogdell. He's also opened up for some great acts, including Dave
Mason, Little Feat, Walter Trout and Chris Cain. When not playing with Scoville Blues
Kenny can be found playing with Philadelphia's own Georgie "The Blacksmith"
Bonds.
